Pet Allergy
Institute and Test Your Pet is a research and environmental testing lab dedicated to increasing knowledge and understanding
of pet allergen production with the goal of learning how to control it. Our laboratory measures the allergen produced by dogs and cats using a simple saliva test.
The test results will tell you how much allergen your pet produces compared to other pets. We can also measure the amount
of allergen found in dust samples. The database of test results will serve you to make better decisions
regarding
pet allergy, and
guide further research.

Betty A. Petrak, M.D., founder of the Pet Allergy Institute in 2006. Trained at New York Hospital/ Cornell,
and Board certified in Allergy and Immunology and in Internal Medicine, Dr. Petrak has more than 20 years of experience seeing
patients with asthma, allergic nasal symptoms, and skin problems. She is currently in practice in Boulder, Colorado. Judy St.Clair a scientist with over 30 years of experience, 8 years in the Biotech industry. Heather Bowbeer, a graduate of the University of Colorado molecular biology department. Together they have developed a protocol to collect saliva from pets in a consistent manner. They have also
set up a lab to perform an Elisa assay, which is a well-regarded, gold standard method to measure the amount of protein in
a specimen. Now they are ready to test your pet and collect the data. The research is funded purely through the modest cost of the test. This is a unique method of accumulating
scientific information, paid for by the people who will directly benefit from the information. It is an experiment in
bringing scientific laboraory know-how right to the consumer for immediate use. Through
the Pet Allergy Institute everyone can participate in the accumulation of scientific data and experience first-hand how science
works.
