INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEST
IS YOUR PET A HIGH, MEDIUM, OR LOW SECRETER
HOW HYPOALLERGENIC IS YOUR PET
We will test a saliva specimen from your pet, measuring the amount of protein produced. Our test can classify your pet as HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW.
The saliva can be easily obtained by using our collection kit.
To see how to collect the saliva, please watch the accompanying video (Found on the "How To Do The Test" page. As a salivary stimulant we use dilute Citric Acid.
Citric Acid is classified by the US Food and Drug administration as a GRAS (generally recognized as Safe) food ingredient. For the purposes of salivary stimulation we will use it in a concentration of 5%. It has been used in premature babies for the same purpose.
It can be irritative if left in contact with the eyes or skin, so rinse it off if any discomfort develops.
Please follow the instructions as closely as possible, because in order to compare the results it is important that all the samples are collected in the same manner. We have found that the best time to take a saliva specimen is during the day when your pet has been up and active, but before he/she has had their meal.
When you send the saliva sample back to our lab, please make sure that you have labeled the specimen, with one of the labels on the Sample Collection Data Sheet, and that you have filled out the data sheet completely.
This information will allow us to add information to our database where we can compare animals of different breeds, ages, sexes, size, color.
The only information that will be published on the website will be general demographic information (age/breed/sex) of the dog.
The applicator will be placed in the cheek pouch. It can be gently rubbed around the mouth cavity, but  it  should not be bitten at all by the pet.

The process is not painful at all, however your pet may be aware of the salivary stimulation and may begin to squirm after about 1 minute.
